Senior Pastor: Dean Linsky

Pastor Dean began his ministry here in May 1992. He is a graduate of Penn State University and earned the ThM (Master of Theology) degree from Dallas Theological Seminary in 1979. He married Connie in 1974 and is the father of five grown sons and grandfather of 7 granddaughters and 7 grandsons.

Pastor Dean is a native of central Pennsylvania having grown up in State College, home of Penn State University.    Although he attended church all through his youth, it wasn'’t until age 17 that he came to a saving belief in Jesus Christ. Contact with the gospel came through the ministry of Young Life. He graduated from State College High School in 1970 and went on to study pre-med at Penn State. By his junior year at the university, his involvement in Campus Crusade for Christ began prompting in him consideration of pursuing full-time ministry. A summer internship helping launch a new church sealed in him a clear sense of calling to pastoral ministry, and after graduation from Penn State in 1974, he enrolled in Dallas Theological Seminary. That same year Dean married his college sweetheart, Connie.

The next five years were invested in intense study for the Master of Theology degree. His desire to pursue pastoral ministry intensified through involvement in several churches in Dallas and a pastoral internship. Graduation came in 1979 and Pastor Dean was installed the next year in his first church in Gradyville, PA. As a “restarting” church, Dean worked various jobs and received part-time compensation from the church until it grew large Linsky Men 8-17-14enough to support his growing family which now included two sons.

What was originally planned as an interim step between churches found Dean working in auto sales and insurance business between 1984 and 1992. During those years he served in preaching, teaching, and leadership positions in his church. Three more sons were born into the family.

He accepted the call to pastor the Reading Evangelical Free Church (REFC) in 1992. The church was searching for a pastor committed to Biblical preaching and focused on making the training of disciples a core activity in the life of the church. Dean’'s experience and passions for these ministries made him the right match for the church, renamed CrossWay Church in 2010.

In 2004 Dean, Connie, and their youngest son lived in Italy for a month while ministering with a missionary. For a Sabbatical in 2007, he visited mission works in China and India.  Connie joined him for study tours in Israel, Greece, and Turkey and a visit to CrossWay missionaries in the Czech Republic.

When not engaged in his pastoral ministry Dean enjoys construction projects around his house, a good workout, and boating or sailing. His favorite vacation place is Pensacola Beach, Florida.

Connie's passion has been teaching the Word to her peers since she started doing so in high school.  Since coming to CrossWay she has been involved in shaping the church's women's ministry along biblical priorities.  She participated on the EFCA's National Women's Ministry Team for several years.  She homeschooled all of their sons through their elementary years, and one of them again in his last years of senior high.  2005 brought a battle against non-Hodgkin's lymphoma in which the Lord brought victory. For relaxation she enjoys reading, crochet, and baking and traveling to visit their far flung family as they are able.

At the beginning of his ministry, Pastor Dean introduced his strong belief in small groups as Jesus’ strategy for shepherding the church. Participation in small groups has become a key component in the spiritual life of the congregation. Under Pastor Dean'’s leadership, members of CrossWay Church have been developed into workers and leaders for the cause of Christ. Ten ministries have become established to help the church pursue its mission to be a disciple-making church that wins followers to Christ and builds up servants for Christ.

Pastor Dean's desire is to continue providing CrossWay with faithful, systematic teaching of the Bible. Coupled with that, he aspires to see our church as a spiritual community in which Christians from all kinds of backgrounds can grow into wholehearted followers of Jesus. He says, "Genuine belivers in Jesus want to grow in their faith. They also feel a concern for others who do not know Jesus. They want to learn how to be competent, confident, and compassionate in telling others about God's mercy and forgiveness. We want to model that and train our congregation to be that."
