Who We Are

CrossWay Church is a place where the good news of salvation in Jesus Christ is proclaimed, the Bible is taught and where we are intentional about building up and equipping followers of Jesus using his model (small groups) as our example. This is a place where you and your family can grow, love, and connect with others who are on an authentic journey with God. To explore our doctrinal distinctives and our denominational statement of faith, please visit the What We Believe page.

Our Affiliation

CrossWay Church is affiliated with the Evangelical Free Church of America.  We are part of its Eastern District Association.

Our Mission is to Win, Build, and Equip Disciples of Jesus Christ. (Matthew 28:19-20)

Our History

CrossWay started its life as Reading Evangelical Free Church. It began as an extension of Community Evangelical Free Church of Elverson, PA. A small group from the Reading area saw the need to establish an Evangelical Free Church more local to their community.

A small core group began as a Bible study in a Reading home with Ted Krug as pastor. As this group grew into an emerging congregation, services were held in several rented facilities in the Reading area from 1985-1995.

In April of 1995, the church moved into its own ten acre, newly renovated seventeen thousand square foot facility. In 2003 we relocated offices, our kitchen and the space used for our worship within the footprint of the existing building. This enhanced the work of multiple ministries.

In April 2010, the members of Reading Evangelical Free Church voted to change their name to CrossWay Church. This was done to better reflect our mission and to acknowledge that we were not located in Reading. Shortly after that, consideration was given to a cost-benefit analysis of a move to a more visible location. A determination was made to remain on Chateau cs bfraftr-2Drive. Steps were planned to upgrade our facility beginning with our Youth Center. When that was complete some upgrades were made to our main building. That was to be followed with a hoped for re-design of our sanctuary to raise our 11 foot ceiling and improve our HVAC. Before those plans could be enacted, the Lord intervened.

In September 2014 the roof over our sanctuary collapsed when no one was in the space. Thus began a challenging blessing of more than a year. While demolition, the insurance settlement, planning and rebuilding went on, our church relocated for Sunday services at the Inn at Reading and then at Reading Movies 11 & IMAX. Ministry took place more in homes and the Youth center during this time, and the church office resided in a construction trailer on site. On Christmas Eve, 2015 the first service was held in our newly built sanctuary.

We praise the Lord for how he has built up the body of people who are CrossWay Church over the years. We praise Him for reminding us that the people, not the building, is the church. And, we praise Him for drawing us into a common desire to know Him through His word, to love Him and one another deeply, and to represent Him well in our spheres of influence.
